Bois D’arc goes by many other names including Osage Orange and Hedge Apple or Horse Apple.
Bois D’arc wood is a very hard wood, landing between Live Oak and Mesquite on the Janka hardness scale. Bois D’arc is french for bow wood, which is what it was used for once upon a time.
When the wood is exposed to air, the slab takes on a deep burnt orange color but when sanded and fresh it becomes highlighter yellow!
As a native Texas species Osage Orange is something we can find regularly but not in large slabs.
